The harbour pilot - a photo reportage on the cruise<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

When a cruise ship arrives in the port of Hamburg, pilots take over the ship and bring it safely to the pier:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before sunrise, we met with Captain Donatus Kulisch, 2nd Elder of the Hamburg Harbour Pilots' Brotherhood, in the pilot tower at Seemannsh\u00f6ft. The cruise ship \u2018Mein Schiff 1\u2019 from TUI Cruises was due to pass the pilot station at around 5 o'clock in the morning. We boarded the cruise ship with the pilot boat. On the bridge, the harbour pilot acts as an advisor to the captain and his crew when entering the port of Hamburg and during the docking manoeuvre at the Steinwerder cruise terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
